Alcan Cable Employee Painting Featured at Lapointe Plant’s
35th Anniversary Celebration

  11/11/2008

Carl Bergeron, an operator at the Alcan Cable Lapointe Works facility in Jonquiere, Quebec, enjoys drawing and painting as a hobby.  One of Carl’s paintings was recently featured at the 35th anniversary celebration at the Lapointe facility.  Small replicas of his painting entitled “Hot Spots” were mounted on tile and presented as gifts to distinguished guests to commemorate the anniversary event.  The painting depicts an aluminum bar break at the Lapointe plant and emphasizes the action and teamwork required by the plant employees to resolve the problem.  Carl prefers to draw and paint crises situations in the workplace with a focus on the workers’ response to these emergencies.

Carl has been an artist for many years.  He began to paint with oils after receiving a paint set when he was a child.  Carl has painted landscapes but prefers to paint characters engaged in their work. Typically, Carl draws his designs to the desired size then transfers them onto canvas.  He enjoys portraying his characters emerging from the shadows of the painting similar to the techniques used by Old World Italian painters.

Alcan has always been a big part of Carl’s life.  His father worked for the Arvida and Grande-Baie facilities for 35 years and his brother currently works for the Power Division of Primary Metals Group.  As an 18 year employee of Alcan Cable’s Lapointe Works, Carl hopes to further expand his portfolio over the next several years.  His aspiration is to exhibit his collection of paintings when he retires from Alcan Cable.
