Once Again Alcan Garners International Recognition for its Commitment to Sustainability

Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row it has been selected as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) in recognition of its on-going efforts to implement sustainability within its businesses.

Alcan's position in the DJSI World will be effective September 22, 2003. The Company joins over 300 companies from 22 countries that lead their industries in sustainability issues. Alcan leads the companies ranked in the aluminum industry group assessed for the index.
Earlier this year, Alcan emerged as one of the "World's Most Admired Companies", finishing a strong second in the international metals industry category on Fortune magazine's global corporate reputation survey. The Company also placed first out of the 100 companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange judged by Corporate Knights magazine.
