Alcan Cable announced today that it's Roseburg, Oregon plant achieved 14 months without a recordable incident. Roseburg's Plant Manager, Roger Beckner, attributes this success to the focus on EHS First and the collective effort of his team.

"The EHS First program has helped us to renew our focus on safety and it's critical role in a successful operation," stated Beckner, "and every individual in this plant has demonstrated a commitment to making this an accident free workplace."

Roseburg's proactive approach to safety will help ensure that it continues to reach it's safety milestones. Several programs and measures have been put in place to focus on EHS. Among these is Roseburg's SERT team (Safety and Emergency Response Team). SERT meets every three weeks to work on safety concerns, and is comprised of individuals from several departments including production, maintenance, shipping and assorted staff roles.

"We see great leadership and input from the SERT team, which is just one example of how dedicated everyone is on doing things the right way," Briggs Dunn, Human Resources Manager, added. "We are working to create a culture committed to the notion that all accidents are preventable."

The Roseburg facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a total of 143 employees. It produces insulated overhead service cable and 600 Volt insulated underground cable, bare aluminum and aluminum alloy conductor and STABILOY® aluminum alloy building wire products. The facility is ISO 9001-2000 and 14001-1996, and OHSAS 18001-1999.
