Goals & Results

Alcan Cable recognizes the importance of energy conservation for the long term sustainability of the planet. That is why 89% of our energy consumption is electricity, over 30% of which comes from clean hydroelectric power sources. In 2008, we reduced our usage of carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reproductive (CMR) chemicals by 64% and reduced our CMR usage by an additional 10% in 2009. Some of our other achievements include:
  • Reduced natural gas consumption by 16% in 2009 at our rod casting facility. Natural gas consumption at all Alcan Cable plants represents only 11% of the company's total energy usage.
  • Achieved a 10% reduction in the use of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxins from 2008 levels.
  • Stabilized our water usage per production (tonne) over the last three years.
  • Over 2.0 million hours worked without a lost time illness or injury.
  • Over 1.4 million hours worked without an OSHA recordable injury.
  • Received recognition for our emergency response efforts from Pepco Holdings during power outages resulting from winter storms in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Achieve the highest supplier contract performance score from NVEnergy based on our customer service, cost saving initiatives, delivery and quality
  • Received the ENERGY STAR rating for our Headquarters at Three Ravinia as one of the most efficient buildings in the nation.
