Alcan Cable recognizes the importance of energy conservation for the long term sustainability of the planet. That is why over 90% of our energy consumption is electricity, 45% of which comes from clean hydroelectric power sources. In 2008, we reduced our usage of carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reproductive (CMR) chemicals by 64% and are actively pursuing ways to decrease this further in the coming year. Some of our other achievements include:

Reduced natural gas consumption by 10% in 2008 at our rod casting facility.
Installed an air filter system as part of our Waste Reduction Program.
Reduced the use of water resources by 10%.
Over 4.5 million hours worked without a lost time illness or injury.
Over one million hours worked without a recordable incident.
Constructed a green field cable operation in China with ZERO recordable cases. This included all phases of the project (i.e. building construction, equipment installation, and commissioning, etc), with over 1600 individuals at one time or another contributing to the project.
Received the ENERGY STAR rating for our Headquarters at Three Ravinia as one of the most efficient buildings in the nation.
