Yes. STABILOY® MC Cable is available with a PVC jacketed armor and is suitable for use in installations where the cable is direct buried in the earth, encased in concrete, or exposed to direct sunlight.
Is MC Cable the same thing as AC cable ? Aren’t they both considered BX?
No. BX is an old, yet commonly accepted term for Type AC Cable and is sometimes incorrectly used for Type MC Cable. Type AC Cable (BX) has a bonding strip in contact with the armor and is constructed per UL #4. Type MC Cable is recognized by Article 330 of the 2011 National Electric Code.

Why use aluminum for the armor?
Aluminum armor is provided due to the high strength, lighter weight and greater flexibility of the aluminum. The alloy provided as the armor is a high strength alloy which closely approximates the strength of galvanized steel. The aluminum armor weighs about 1/3 that of steel and provides about 50% more flexibility. In addition, the aluminum armor of STABILOY® MC Cable is rated for superior resistance to corrosion.
